Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina says Zambia’s home clash against Togo on Tuesday evening is the perfect opportunity to revive the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign.

Zambia host Togo at 18:00 hours at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium needing maximum points after opening Group I with a 3-1 loss to Algeria in Tizi Ouzou on Friday.

Speaking at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola today, Lwandamina admitted his side must find a balance between gelling a blended squad of youngsters and seasoned campaigners and grinding results.

“We do have a chance, we have just played one game, every game is vital,” said the Nchanga Rangers coach.

“Having three points does not warrant that they will come and collect three points again. We have to do our homework, and we are playing at home. I am sure the boys will rise to the occasion.”

Lwandamina said his players are ready to redeem themselves and insisted Zambia remains firmly in the race for the 2027 AFCON to be hosted in East Africa.

“All games are important and we are aware that we are coming from a loss and we have this opportunity to redeem ourselves and the boys are ready for that challenge,” he said.

Captain Fashion Sakala echoed his coach’s optimism and declared Chipolopolo will win in front of their home fans.

“The team is ready, we are ready to fight in tomorrow’s game,” Sakala said.

“If we want to qualify, we have to win this game. We will definitely win tomorrow no doubt about it. Everyone will see a very different game tomorrow. I am very confident about that.”

Sakala, who scored Zambia’s lone goal in Algeria, said home form will be decisive.

“It is a very important game because we are playing at home with fans behind us. I know definitely the stadium will be full. Zambian people have never disappointed us when it comes to support.”

Group I leaders Algeria face Burundi in the other fixture, while Togo, who beat Burundi 1-0 in Lomé on Match Day 1, sit on three points alongside Algeria, leaving Zambia bottom and in need of a win.
