The arrival of Stanley Chungu and Harry Ngosa beefs up the hospital’s specialized medical team, bringing the total number of resident consultants at Chinsali General to three.
Muchinga Province Health Director, David Silweya, says the development increases the total number of specialized OBGYN consultants across Muchinga Province to four, working alongside another specialised consultant based at Chilonga General Mission Hospital in Mpika District.
Dr Silweya hailed the deployment as a turning point for maternal and reproductive healthcare in the region.
He notes that arrival of two OBGYN specialists to the facility fulfills a long-standing commitment to decentralising specialised care.
“This achievement reflects our continued commitment to strengthening local specialist services and expanding access to specialised care right here in the province,” the Provincial Health Director stated.
Dr Silweya charges that the additional of new staff to Chinsali General Hospital which is also a referral center for Muchinga, part of Eastern Province in Chama district, and Northern among others will cut off long distances expectant mothers and families used to incur to access quality OBGYN care services.
” No more long journeys for our mothers and families to access quality OBGYN care,” he said.
Dr Silweya emphasizes that efforts to upgrade the province’s medical capacity will continue adding that the Provincial Health Administration is already pivoting its focus toward recruiting other vital medical specialists to establish a comprehensive care network in Muchinga.
“Securing the services of these two consultants is a big step forward, but our work doesn’t stop here,” he added.
He said the health sector in the province is now channeling the energy into attracting Physicians, Pediatricians, and Surgeons to join the rural health space and help complete a full specialist skill set for the province.
Dr Silweya has since reaffirmed the department’s resolve to improve local health outcomes.
“It’s not an easy undertaking, but it’s one we remain fully dedicated to, for the health and wellbeing of our communities,” he echoed.
