Acting Chilanga District Commissioner Maureen Chilende says monitoring and evaluating how government departments have performed in terms of the utilisation of funds helps to promote transparency and accountability.

Ms Chilende says the move also helps to know what has contributed to the success or failure in programme implementation for a particular department.

She was speaking when a team from the Lusaka Provincial Administration Planning unit conducted a monitoring of the 2026 budget performance for the first half of the year for departments under the Chilanga District Administration which was held at the administration offices.

“We are reminded that our work here through our work plans and together with the performance of the budget provides checks and balances as an institution. Such meetings are very important to help improve ourselves and improve on our weaknesses and continue to promote teamwork,’’ she emphasised.

She said the government through the planning department at provincial level will use the information to feed into the budget for next year.

Lusaka Provincial Senior Planner Mulenga Chimwala explained that the exercise focuses on capturing information on programme implementation against the set targets that were set in districts and departments work plans.

He stated that this is in order to ensure that the budget performance aligns with the implemented activities with district work plans and other activities.

Mr Chimwala added that outcome based budgeting for next year will include the financial resources allocation utilization for the first half of 2026 against the work plans output for the departments and will also contribute to the financial allocation for 2027 budget.
