According to the Zambia Land Alliance, the increase in land scams, particularly multiple unsuspecting members of the public being sold one piece of land, is resulting from the lack of caution and verification of titles (case of state land).

Speaking in an interview with the Zambian Business Times (ZBT), ZLA Executive Director Patrick Musole urged the public to do due diligence in verifying documents before any transactions are made because there is a lot of fake documentation being done.

“When you are looking for land, if you have been offered land, carry out due diligence both on the ground and in public offices; if it is on title, go to the council or ministry of lands, because there are a lot of fake documents, and this is a very alarming situation.”

“We have been on the ground as an alliance and met community members, and there are so many people crying because of land scams,” he added.

Musole urged the government to take decisive policy in ensuring that the matter is curbed, and the issues surrounding the natural resource are dealt with accordingly.
