A Fatal Road Traffic Accident has claimed two lives on the spot while two others are nursing serious injuries at Chinsali General Hospital.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Lubinda Mayamba confirmed the development in a statement made available to the media  in Chinsali today.

Mr Mayamba said the road traffic accident occurred yesterday at around 13:00 hours at Chipunga Village along the Great North Road in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province.

The Provincial commanding officer noted that involved was a stationary Howo Sino truck and trailer bearing registration numbers T834 EEM and T321 EFD loaded with 13 bundles of copper, a property of Stunner’s Company Limited and a Toyota Hilux double cabin bearing registration number GRZ 167 EA a property of the Road Development Agency (RDA) with five (5) passengers on board.

He said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Hilux was overtaking improperly and in the process hit a Howo Sino truck and trailer, which was parked off the road, on the left side and lost control of the motor vehicle.

“The truck had earlier incurred a damaged rear right part of the trailer and damaged two right rear tyres, which was parked on the left side (yellow line) off the road into Northern direction which was in custody of Kayumba other names not known believed to be Tanzanian national and is currently at large while his passenger Maxon Mushya aged 26 of Serenje who escaped unhurt,” the police commissioner added.

Mr Mayamba further explained that the Toyota Hilux which was being driven from South into the Northern direction by Mannnaseh Mwenya ,40, of Chiwanda area in Isoka District had its front part extensively damaged.

He further identified other accident victims as Exildah Mutale aged 41 of Chimbele Village in Senior Chief Nkula Chiefdom,who sustained multiple bruises on the head,right hand, painful chest and general body pains and Chrispin Bwalya aged 51 of Kapili village under Chief Nkweto’s area in Chinsali District who sustained a cut on the head and suspected fractured left arm and general body pains.

Mr Mayamba said the injured accident victims are currently admitted to Chinsali General Hospital where they are receiving treatment while two adults, whose details are not yet known but, one male and one female, who died on the spot,  have since been deposited to Chinsali General Hospital Mortuary awaiting possible identification and postmortem examination.

He said both vehicles are still at the accident scene.

The Commissioner explained that the driver of a Toyota Hilux reported himself to Isoka Police Station where he is detained for causing death by dangerous driving, while investigations into the matter have been instituted.
