The United Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (UTDAWUZ) has joined the nation in mourning the death of former Vice President, Guy Scott, describing him as a dedicated statesman whose service to the country will be remembered for generations.

UTDAWUZ President, Givers Moonga said Dr Scott devoted many years of his life to public service and made significant contributions to Zambia’s governance and national development.

Mr Moonga noted that Dr Scott’s role in Zambia’s political history became particularly significant when he assumed the position of Acting President following the death of President Michael Chilufya Sata, helping to uphold constitutional order and ensure national stability during a critical period.

“As a labour movement, we recognise and appreciate leaders who dedicate their lives to serving the nation and advancing its development. Dr Scott’s contribution to Zambia’s growth and democratic governance will remain part of our country’s history,” he added.

In a statement made available to the media, Mr Moonga extended the union’s heartfelt condolences to the Scott family, friends, and the people of Zambia during this period of mourning.

“Apart from being the Vice President and acting President, Dr. Guy Scott also served Zambia with distinction in various leadership positions, including as Minister of Agriculture during the MMD administration and later as Vice President under the Patriotic Front government. His commitment to national development, democratic principles, and public service earned him respect across the political divide,” said Mr. Moonga
