The United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Parliamentary seat for Kazungula South Constituency in Kazungula District.

Returning Officer for Kazungula South Constituency Winfred Hakoola declared Siasiloka Mukuni of the UPND as duly elected candidate as Member of Parliament for the said constituency after scoring 20, 024 votes.

Mr Hakoola made the announcement this afternoon outside the totaling centre at Kazungula Boarding High School.

Mr Siasiloka’s closest rival Lungisani Banda of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) managed to get 807 votes while Joseph Simbotwe who stood for Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) party got 124 votes.

The Returning Officer further declared that 92 ballot papers were rejected as invalid and that there were 21, 047 votes cast.

Kazungula South Constituency has eight wards and 35, 505 registered voters.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer has announced that later in the day, declaration of the winner for the Council Chairperson will be made at the Kazungula Town Council Civic centre.
