THE legal battle over the Kawambwa parliamentary seat has moved into full swing after the High Court set September 21, 2026, as the date for commencement of trial.

The matter came up yesterday, September 15, 2026, before High Court Judge A.

Malata-Ononuju in Lusaka during a scheduling conference.

Petitioner Nason Musonda is challenging the election of Danstan Mwansa as Member of Parliament for Kawambwa Constituency in the August 13, 2026 general elections, alleging that the election was not free and fair.

Musonda has lined up 15 witnesses whom he intends to call during the trial.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is cited as the second respondent in the matter.

Appearing for Musonda was Ndola-based lawyer Henry Soko of Messrs Lumangwe Chambers Legal Practitioners.

According to the election results, Musonda polled 4,586 votes, while Mwansa secured 8,124 votes.

The trial is expected to hear evidence and arguments surrounding the petitioner’s challenge to the election.
