Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye have congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election.

President Ruto, in a congratulatory message dated August 18, 2026, extended his congratulations on behalf of the Kenyan Government and the people, describing Mr Hichilema’s victory as a testament to his dedication, perseverance and commitment to Zambia’s advancement.

Mr Ruto said the election result was an affirmation of the trust and confidence the Zambian people had placed in President Hichilema’s leadership to advance national development and prosperity.

He said Kenya attaches great importance to its relations with Zambia, noting that the two countries have maintained deep and enduring cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels.

ZANIS reports that President Ruto also described Zambia as a brotherly nation, valuable partner and ally in the region, further expressing his desire to work closely with President Hichilema to strengthen and broaden the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He has wished President Hichilema success during his second term as well as peace, unity and prosperity for the people of Zambia.

And, President Hassan has also congratulated President Hichilema, describing Tanzania’s relations with Zambia as deep, historical and fraternal.

In a message posted on her official social media account on X, President Hassan extended heartfelt congratulations to President Hichilema on his re-election.

She said she looked forward to continuing to work with President Hichilema to strengthen the bilateral ties between Tanzania and Zambia for the benefit of the two nations.

President Hassan also conveyed her best wishes to President Hichilema and Zambia, while invoking blessings for Zambia and Africa.

Meanwhile, President Ndayishimiye who is also Chairperson of the African Union (AU), conveyed his message of congratulations via a social media post on X.

He wished continued success for President Hichilema as he leads the Zambian people towards greater peace, unity and prosperity, for the benefit of Zambia and the African continent as a whole.
