Rufunsa District Commissioner, Richard Mabena has praised the World Bank-funded rehabilitation of the Shikabeta–Luano Road, a project costing more than K100 million.

Mr Mabena, who inspected the works, expressed pleasure with improvements to a road that had been in a deplorable state, the road connecting Rufunsa in Shikabeta Chiefdom to Mkushi in Central Province.

Mary Mpanshya, a resident, thanked the government for working on the road as it has enabled a lot of youths to get employed.

“I want to appreciate the works being done by Sinohydro a Chinese company that is rehabilitating the Shikabeta – Luano Road which will connect Shikabeta Chiefdom to Mkushi in Central Province,” said Mr Mabena.

“The works on this road has enabled a lot of us youths to find jobs because we were just in the village doing nothing but with government working on this road, we have found something to do,”said Ms Mpanshya.

Roland Sakala, a youth who operates a motorcycle on the Shikabeta – Luano Road also commended government, stating that the road was in a deplorable state which made motorists spend long hours on the stretch.

“We are very thankful to this government for considering working on this road. This road was bad such that it used to take about 4 hours to reach Shikabeta but with the works being done, we are able to cover half of the hours,” said Mr Sakala.
