A 26-year-old truck driver died Monday morning after his vehicle overturned on the Chirundu–Kafue Road, police have confirmed.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the accident occurred around 07:30 hours at Kapiringozi area.
The deceased has been identified as Lloyd Phiri of unknown residential address. He was an employee of Aregash General Dealers Limited in Lusaka and was driving a Sino truck and trailer, registration numbers BBC 7421 ZM and ABD 7132 T, travelling from west to east.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police show that the driver was descending a hill at excessive speed and failed to negotiate a curve, and in the process, the vehicle veered off the road and overturned onto its left side.
The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mtendere Mission Hospital. His body has since been deposited in the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination. The truck and trailer were extensively damaged.
Zambia Police Service has appealed to motorists to exercise caution, observe road signs, and adhere to speed limits, especially on hilly and curved sections of the road.
