The National Restoration Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) has scooped the Chinsali Central parliamentary seat in Chinsali District, Muchinga Province.

Chinsali Central Returning Officer Kingsley Kabengele declared Chanda Mwansa the duly elected Member of Parliament for Chinsali Central at 09:50 hours.

Mr Kabengele said Mr Mwansa of the NRPUP polled 11,254 votes, beating Christopher Mulenga of the UPND, who came out second with 4,430 votes.

Joseph Katongo of the Resolute Party came third with 2,346 votes and was followed by Mubanga Kangwa of the Socialist Party, who got 1,624, while Gift Chola of the Citizen was last with 255 votes.

And the newly elected Member of Parliament has thanked the people of Chinsali for electing him as MP.

Mr Mwansa has promised to promote equality in the delivery of development to the area.

He said he will work with the people in the area to work on the challenges they are facing.

“I want to thank the people of Chinsali for standing with me and voting for me. We went through a lot, but the people of Chinsali, my mother, and the marketeers stood with me and supported me,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NRPUP has also scooped all the seven wards in Chinsali Central.

The wards include Chinsali, Ituntwe, Ichinga, Lubu, Lubwa, Nkakula, and Mulakupikwa

The NRPUP is also leading in the mayoral position, with its candidate, Martin Chitondo, getting 13,950 and is closely followed by Belinda Mulenga of UPND with 3,689 votes.

The results for the mayoral election would only be known after combining Chinsali Central with the newly created Chilianda Constituency.

The returning officer also announced results for president in the constituency where Brian Mundubile of NRPUP polled 15,606 votes and was followed by Mr Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND, who got 3,986 votes.8

Fred Membe of the Socialist Party got 79 votes; Bwalya Fube of Zambia Must Prosper got 69 votes, while Harry Kalaba of Citizen First got 64 votes.

The rest got below 26 votes each
