Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu on Sunday visited families displaced in Chief Bunda Bunda area of Rufunsa District, where thousands are reportedly living in tents following an eviction from land said to be within a game reserve.

The DU leader interacted with some of the affected households who have been camping in the open since their homes were demolished months ago.

Among those present was Head woman Chikoloma, who told Njobvu that over 8,000 families have been affected by the evictions.

She said many of the displaced, including women and children, are struggling with shelter, food and basic necessities after losing their homes.

Njobvu expressed sadness at the conditions the families are living in.

He said it was painful to see citizens, including vulnerable groups, continuing to sleep in the cold weeks after the eviction.

He further urged that any resettlement or law enforcement exercise should be done in a humane manner that protects the dignity of citizens.
