In an era dominated by instant online reactions, the Mwine Lubemba has boldly called out the rampant abuse of social media, reminding the nation that true, progressive development is born from quiet diplomacy, mutual respect, and intellectual depth, not toxic internet insults.

When the Paramount Chief revealed that he always prioritizes engaging the government privately and diplomatically, he provided a masterclass in statesmanlike leadership.

Traditional rulers have historically been the bridge between the state and the people. Chitimukulu’s choice to resolve national matters through closed door consultation, rather than public political squabbles, safeguards the dignity of his throne and achieves real results for the Bemba kingdom and the nation at large.

This disciplined approach exposes the emptiness of “keyboard warriors” who confuse social media noise with genuine civic engagement.

Politically, this message must echo the Chief’s sharp condemnation of cyber bullying and political insults. As the Chitimukulu rightly noted, the democracy and freedom of expression Zambia enjoys should never degenerate into what he aptly termed the “freedom of stupidity,” where individuals use digital platforms for character assassination, fake news, and propaganda.

It is a tragic reflection of “low intellectual output” when citizens exhaust their energies hurling insults at elected leaders and traditional elders instead of offering concrete, factual solutions to the socio economic challenges confronting the nation.

By urging his people to stop social media abuse, the Chief is trying to shield the youth from a destructive culture. Resorting to digital lawlessness does not build schools, it does not fix roads, and it certainly does not honor our national values.

Those who use social media to attack elders and authorities are merely inviting self inflicted stagnation onto their own lives.

The lesson from the Kasama palace is clear: Let us elevate our national discourse. If a ruler as powerful as the Chitimukulu chooses the path of quiet diplomacy and structured collaboration with the government, everyday citizens must learn to log off the politics of malice and log into the politics of development.

Our smartphones should be tools for progress, not weapons for tearing down the social fabric of our nation.
