NGOCC DEEPLY CONCERNED BY THE CRITICAL HEALTH CONDITION OF HON. FAITH MUNTHALI

PRESS STATEMENT
For Immediate release
15th September 2026

We have learnt with deep concern of reports that Mafinga South Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Faith Munthali, is critically ill and currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of a health facility, in Isoka. Her current health condition is a matter of grave concern not only to her family and constituents but also to the broader women’s movement and all citizens who value justice, human dignity and the protection of fundamental rights.

We wish to remind all relevant authorities that every citizen is entitled to the highest attainable standard of healthcare and humane treatment, regardless of their political affiliation, status, or legal circumstances. Human rights principles and constitutional values require that every person in custody or under state responsibility be treated with dignity and respect.

Therefore, we demand that Hon. Faith Munthali be accorded the dignity befitting her humanity and the courtesy due to a civic leader of her stature. We further emphasize that she remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law and should not be subjected to any treatment that undermines this fundamental principle of justice.

In light of the seriousness of her condition, we call upon the Government to urgently facilitate her medical evacuation to Lusaka, where she can access specialized medical care and better-equipped health facilities.

At this critical moment, the preservation of life must take precedence over all other considerations. We urge the authorities to act swiftly, compassionately and responsibly to safeguard Hon. Munthali’s health and wellbeing.

NGOCC stands in solidarity with Hon. Faith Munthali, her family, and the people of Mafinga South during this difficult time and accordingly, wish her a quick recovery.
