The local authority in Nakonde District in Muchinga Province has commended stakeholders in the district for upholding peace before, during and after the 2026 General Elections.
Nakonde District Electoral Officer Donald Mwanza said the electoral process covering elections for councilors, Council Chairperson, Members of Parliament and Presidential has been concluded successfully and without major incidents.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Mwanza thanked the media, political parties, security wings and residents of Nakonde for their cooperation and calm conduct throughout the process.
He noted that no cases of violence were recorded in the district, adding that any complaints raised were resolved amicably through dialogue involving the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), security personnel and political party representatives.
“We had no major incidents that escalated to violence. There were one or two verbal complaints, but working with stakeholders we managed to dialogue and reach win-win decisions,” Mr Mwanza said.
He congratulated all candidates who were declared winners and encouraged those who did not succeed to remain resilient.
Mr Mwanza further called on the newly elected leaders and residents to put aside political differences and focus on development.
“Work has started. Can we do more, Yes we can. Now that we have our leaders in office, let us bury political divergence and focus on bringing development and economic value to Nakonde District,” he said.
The District Electoral Officer, who also serves as Council Secretary, said it was an honour to oversee the electoral process in the district.
He adds that the experience had given him valuable lessons while working with the people of the border town of Nakonde.
Mr Mwanza also urged residents to continue maintaining peace, stressing that development can only be realized in a calm atmosphere.
