THE Zambia Police Service has thanked citizens and partner institutions for helping ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2026 general elections, while urging officers to continue serving with impartiality and respect for human rights.
In his remarks when he addressed senior officers, following the conclusion of the electoral period, Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba stressed that maintaining peace is not the work of the police alone but a shared commitment citing that the service will continue to strengthen community policing, information-sharing to prevent crime and build public confidence.
He said the peaceful outcome reflected the cooperation and responsible conduct of communities across the country.
Inspector General Musamba highlighted that as officers return to regular duties, they are reminded that crime does not stop when an election ends calling on police to continue to act with integrity, discipline, and uphold the Constitution of Zambia.
“Your patience, cooperation and respect for the law played an important part in preserving peace and national unity,” he said.
The IG noted that public safety aligns with the Government’s broader development ambitions, saying a secure environment is essential to protecting businesses, farmers, infrastructure and the movement of goods and services in the country.
He disclosed that a total of 21,340 police officers and 2,550 recruits were deployed across all the ten provinces of the country during the 2026 general election aimed at protecting life and property.
