Kenyan President William Ruto Mourns Wicknell Chivayo After Fatal Helicopter Crash
Kenyan President William Ruto has joined those mourning Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, describing him as a dear friend whose warmth touched many people.

Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and four other people died in a helicopter crash in Marondera, Mashonaland East, on Wednesday evening.

Ruto Remembers Chivayo As A Friend
In a post on X, Ruto said he was deeply saddened by the deaths and described Chivayo’s passing as a painful loss for his family, friends and those who knew him.

The Kenyan president also extended his condolences to Muteke’s family and the families of the other victims.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend, Wicknell Chivayo, together with his wife, Lucy Muteke, and the other lives lost in the helicopter crash in Zimbabwe. Their sudden departure is a painful loss to their families, friends and all who knew them,” he wrote.

Ruto described Chivayo as a close friend whose warmth, energy and belief in Africa’s potential left a lasting impression on him.

“Wicknell was a dear friend whose warmth touched many people. I will remember him for his friendship, his energy and his deep conviction in the possibilities of our continent,” Ruto wrote.

Message To President Mnangagwa And Zimbabwe
Ruto also directed his condolences to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe following the tragedy.

“I convey my deepest condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives, to President Mnangagwa, the people of Zimbabwe and everyone mourning this tragic loss.May God grant Wicknell, Lucy and all those who perished eternal rest,” Ruto said.

Ruto described the deaths as a sudden departure that had left families, friends and others grieving.
