United Party for National Development (UPND) National Chairman, Collins Maoma has said re-electing Mr Hakainde Hichilema to preside over the affairs of Zambian for the next five years means protecting the country’s democracy, peace and continued development.

Speaking shortly after Mr Hichilema was declared President-elect by Returning Officer for the presidential election, Mwangala Zaloumis at Mulungushi International Conference Centre Kenneth Kaunda Wing in Lusaka in the early hours of today, Mr Maoma said Mr Hichilema is a sober-minded leader who values peace.

He thanked all Zambians, UPND Alliance Partners and other political stakeholders for their peacefulness during the campaign period and throughout the electoral process leading to the August 13, 2026 general elections.

And UPND Alliance Partners said the re-election of the party and Mr Hichilema is the right decision Zambians have made for it will translate into bettering their lives through building on the strong foundation which the president-elect built during his first term in office.

Peter Chanda of the New Congress Party said Zambians have reaffirmed peace, democracy and stability of the nation through the August 13, 2026 polls.

And Lesley Chikuse of the Republican Progressive Party said choosing Mr Hichilema means actualising benefits that were promised to Zambians.

Meanwhile president of the opposition Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP), Highvie Hamududu congratulated the UPND for having Members of Parliament from each of the ten provinces of Zambia.

Miles Sampa, the Patriotic Front president, noted that Mr Hichilema has been re-elected because of his remarkable performance as Head of State in the past five years.

Mr Hichilema has been re-elected after amassing 2,965,326 votes from the just ended polls, beating his closest rival, Brian Mundubile of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) who garnered 1,856,217 ballots in an election which was contested by 13 presidential candidates.
