The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has expressed deep sadness over the death of Chief Liteta of Chibombo district, who passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.

BRE Prime Minister, Mukela Manyando has also praised the late chief for his strong ties to the BRE and the nation.

Ngambela Manyando says the death of Chief Liteta is a great loss, not only to the Lenje people but to the entire nation.

Ngambela was speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka.

“BRE had a close working relationship with the late chief, we are saddened by his death,” Ngambela Manyando stated.

The Prime Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Liteta Chiefdom, and the people of Chibombo during this difficult time.

Lenje Roal Establishment, through the office of Senior Chief Mukuni Ng’ombe of the Lenje people in Central Province, announced the passing of Chief Liteta on ZNBC News last evening.

Establishment Chairman, Christopher Mutemwa, confirmed the death of the traditional leader yesterday.

Chief Liteta passed away on Friday, August 14th, 2026.

Funeral gathering is currently taking place at Chief Liteta’s palace .

The burial is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Liteta Village
