THE new Lusaka Mayor Mwewa Chitambala is like a wounded bull in a China shop. However, the only difference is that, he’s not charging in every direction destroying things, but trying to bring sanity back to the city of Lusaka…… cleaning up the mess that we keep leaving behind!

We are hoping to see a change of mind set very soon and, of course, a much cleaner and welcoming capital city. Can we see all hose shops painted! Can our people stop throwing trash through the windows of cruising vehicles! Can we see street lights worked on! Can we see rubbish bins everywhere! Can we see play parks restored! Can we see buses loading from designated stations!

We firmly believe Mwewa Chitambala hasn’t gone in to mint gold as he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth…….he has gone in to fix things……to clean up the city!

Having laid this groundwork, we now come to the incoming Cabinet Ministers. Why do you expect HH to appoint you as a Cabinet Minister? If your answer is contracts, trips, and enriching yourself, please stay home. President Hichilema does not need passengers, he needs deliverers.

Take a leaf from the Mayor! Do you have any vision for your country or it’s the flag and other appendages attached to the offices which have attracted you?

Some of the Ministers in the previous government were a total let down! They didn’t leave any mark that the nation would remember them for; they were ever sitting in offices drinking tea with cookies or galavanting from one Hotel to another cutting deals. We know them; particularly those from the Copperbelt!

The energy that the new Mayor of city of Lusaka brings to his office is what we expect from Cabinet Ministers! Don’t come to these offices with the mentality of CEOs who should sit in offices the whole day.

If you’re Agriculture Minister, we expect you to take to the field and ensure that farming inputs are being delivered on time. If you’re Energy Minister, we expect you to be industrious and innovative and ensure that investments into alternative energy continue pouring in so that load shedding doesn’t come back. If you’re Local Government Minister, you must make sure CDF isn’t being abused and projects are being completed in good time. If you’re Fisheries Minister we expect you to fill up our rivers with fresh fish stocks. If you’re Small & Medium Enterprises Minister, go to the shanties and empower those youngsters with affordable loans.

Of course the list goes on and on but the most important thing is let’s learn from Chitambala; let’s be passionate about our jobs even if we are aware most of you are going in for the money!
