HICHILEMA MOCKS BRIAN MUNDUBILE’S CAMPAIGN FUNDRAISING CALL

President Hakainde Hichilema has mocked opposition NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile over his campaign’s public appeal for donations ahead of the general election.

NRPUP launched fundraising initiative and announced website, Nrpupfundraising.com, as a site on which those willing to be part of the cause could visit and support.

In a facebook post early in the morning, President Hichilema remarked that Mr. Mundubile should instead “access the Constituency Development Fund (CDF),” in comments seen as a jab at the opposition leader’s fundraising efforts.

Political fundraising through public donations is not new in Zambia. During the 2016 elections, President Hichilema and the UPND also raised campaign funds through a GoFundMe platform managed by Ali Mweene.

Meanwhile, University of Zambia political analyst Mathews Mvula has told Zambian Post reporter John Tembo that fundraising is a normal democratic practice, noting that leaders such as Barack Obama and billionaire Donald Trump also raised millions of dollars through public donations to finance their presidential campaigns.
