The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 54-year-old Henry Shula Kasolo to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for trafficking in high-grade cannabis.

Kasolo was arrested in June 2025 in Lusaka District of Lusaka Province after being found trafficking in 117 packs of compressed high-grade cannabis weighing a combined 73.9 kilogrammes.

According to a statement issued by Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba, Kasolo concealed the cannabis in four suitcases.

Mr Tamba said the DEC also seized 10,200 United States dollars and 6,000 Kwacha in cash, which was reasonably believed to be proceeds of crime.

He said a Toyota Hilux motor vehicle used in the commission of the illicit activity was also seized.

Mr Tamba said the landmark court outcome demonstrates the dedication, discipline and professionalism of DEC officers, which culminated in meticulous intelligence gathering, strengthened inter-agency investigations that crossed borders and effective prosecution by the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).

He said in order to ensure that crime does not pay, the Commission has instituted investigations into assets linked to Kasolo’s illicit activities.
