A 33‑year‑old woman of Choma’s Zambia Compound has been found dead in her marital home.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Rosemary Mudenda, was found lying in a pool of blood with a knife near her head, believed to have been used in the incident.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, disclosed that from the physical inspection conducted on the body, police found two cuts one on the neck and another on the stomach.

Mr Namalongo said the incident is reported to have occurred between 04:00 hours and 07:00 hours on September 9, 2026.

The Commissioner said that on September 9, 2026, at 08:00 hours, the victim’s mother, Mildred Yomena, 49, reported that her daughter had been found dead inside her house.

“Brief facts are that Ms Yomena, who reported the matter to police, was at home when she received a telephone call from a concerned member of the public informing her that her daughter had been found dead inside her house.

She immediately rushed to the house, where she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood. A knife with blood stains was found near the deceased’s head. She then rushed to Shampande Police Post and reported the matter,” Mr Namalongo said.

Mr Namalongo disclosed that the deceased’s 50‑year‑old husband has since been apprehended and is detained in police custody in connection with the murder of Ms Mudenda.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Mr Namalongo said the body was later taken to Choma General Hospital, where death was certified, and was subsequently deposited in the mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations into the matter continue.
