The opposition Resolute Party (RP) has resolved not to petition the outcome of the August 13, 2026 general election, saying such a move would be counterproductive.
RP president Martin Phiri says now that elections are concluded, it is time for the country to focus on development and improving the welfare of the people.
Dr Phiri says the party leadership has since held a post-election review meeting to assess its performance and the future of its partnership within the Alliance.
He said Zambia has demonstrated its commitment to democratic principles and is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of democracy on the African continent.
Dr Phiri, who was flanked by his Secretary General (SG), Howard Chimulu, disclosed this at a press briefing held in Lusaka today.
He said the party was also proud of its performance in the elections, having secured five parliamentary seats and more than 20 councilor positions in various constituencies and wards.
He further commended Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu who stood on National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity for what he described as a spirited campaign.
The RP leader has since congratulated President elect Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election.
President- elect Hichilema secured 60 percent against his closest challenger, Brian Mundubile who garnered 38 percent of the votes cast.
The RP leader has called on Zambians to rally behind President- elect Hichilema and allow the UPND government space to implement its development agenda.
Meanwhile, RP SG, Howard Chimulu said the party’s performance is a milestone achievement considering that the RP has only been in active politics for nine months.
Mr Chimulu says the RP party will use its representation in Parliament to provide effective checks and balances to the Executive where necessary.
And losing RP Makeni Constituency parliamentary candidate, Kavumbu Hakachima has appealed to Zambians to embrace peace, unity and national healing following the elections.
Ms Hakachima says politics is about serving the people and not promoting violence and divisions.
She urged the Zambian people to support one another regardless of political affiliation and to embrace peace and calm.
