Zambian champions Zesco Ndola Girls on Thursday afternoon kicked off their CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifier in with a huge victory over Zimbabwe’s Herental Queens in Botswana.

Zesco beat Herental 5-2 in the opening Group A match at Gaborone United Stadium.

Zesco star Eneless Phiri scooped the Player of the Match award after an outstanding display on the day.

Phiri grabbed a brace with goals in the 7th and 51st minutes.

Charity Mubanga equally registered a brace in the match, scoring goals in the 10th and 22nd minutes.

Zesco’s other goal was inked by Mila Milambo after 66 minutes.

At half time, Zesco led Herental 3–1 after an eventful first 45 minutes.

The Ndola Girls controlled most of the proceedings and held on to overcome the Zimbabweans at the regional games.

Gaborone United FC of Botswana and Lesotho Defence Force Ladies FC are the other Group A rivals for Zesco.

Zesco are among eight of Southern Africa’s leading clubs that have gathered in Gaborone from August 20-29 to battle for regional supremacy and the coveted place at the continental finals.
