THE Department of Immigration has arrested Tonse Alliance Secretary General Celestine Mukandila over questions relating to his immigration status.

Department Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka confirmed the arrest in a statement Thursday. Mr. Mukandila, 36, was arrested at his residence in Mapepe, Chilanga, Lusaka, on August 20, 2026.

Mr. Nshinka said the department was investigating a report regarding Mr. Mukandila’s immigration status.

“Mr. Mukandila is currently in the custody of the Department of Immigration as investigations into the matter continue, and we will provide an update at an appropriate time,” he said.
