MAN APPREHENDED IN NYIMBA FOR ALLEGEDLY INSULTING PRESIDENT HICHILEMA
A 23-year-old man of Mchimazi Village in Nyimba District has been apprehended for allegedly insulting and making defamatory remarks against President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema and people who voted for him in the 2026 General Elections.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says Peter Phiri was apprehended by UPND members and taken to Nyimba Police Station after allegedly uttering the remarks while drinking with his younger brother on August 18, 2026.
Mr. Mweemba says the matter was reported to police yesterday by UPND District Youth Chairman Misheck Nkoswe, who reported on behalf of the party.
He says police are now investigating the matter, while efforts are underway to apprehend the second suspect, who is currently on the run.
