Family Development Initiatives (FDI) has commenced a five-day Trainer of Trainers Workshop in Kabwe to strengthen the Community Health Information Platform (CHIP).
FDI Team Leader Sheikh Yussuf Ayami explained that the event is sponsored by the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) with support from the Global Fund.
Ayami highlighted that the training will empower district health staff from more than 13 districts to guide community health workers in using digital tools effectively.
He noted that CHIP enables community based volunteers (CBVs) to record and transmit household health data directly to the national system.
Ayami observed that this innovation helps identify missed vaccinations, antenatal care gaps, medicine stocks, and sanitation challenges.
He remarked that the platform replaces outdated paper-based methods, which were slow and unreliable.
Ayami stressed that pilot projects in Mpongwe, Kazungula, Katete, and Chongwe have already demonstrated positive outcomes.
He underlined that the Kabwe workshop is a crucial step towards nationwide implementation as FDI will scale up usage of the CHIP to 13 additional districts across more than 60 health facilities.
Ayami emphasised that the initiative will ensure health equity reaches even the most remote households.
Ayami has thanked CHAZ for supporting the initiative and has paid tribute to the Ministry of Health for itsy leadership and commitment to advancing digital health in Zambia.
