The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sponsored former Chipolopolo Interim Coach, Moses Sichone to undergo CAF A Licence training in Tanzania as part of efforts to empower local coaches.

FAZ Secretary General, Charles Chakatazya, says the sponsorship is aimed at widening the pool of qualified Zambian coaches eligible to manage national teams.

Chakatazya said the move follows the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s requirement that national team head coaches hold a minimum of a CAF A Licence.

He said Sichone has already commenced the training with support from FAZ in collaboration with the Tanzania Football Federation.

Chakatazya said the association is taking steps to ensure that Zambian coaches are not disadvantaged by the tightening of CAF regulations.

He explained that Zambia has faced challenges in the past involving coaches who did not meet CAF’s qualification criteria to manage teams at international tournaments.

Chakatazya noted that although Sichone holds a UEFA A Licence obtained in Germany, CAF regulations require senior national team head coaches to possess a CAF A Licence or the equivalent UEFA Pro Licence.

He said FAZ has previously sponsored local coaches, including Wedson Nyirenda, who holds a CAF Pro Licence, as well as Ian Bakala and Masautso Tembo, who both hold CAF A Licences.

Chakatazya said the sponsorship of Sichone forms part of FAZ’s broader commitment to strengthening the capacity of local coaches and increasing the number of highly qualified coaches in Zambia.
