Lusaka, 21st September 2026 – The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sponsored former Chipolopolo interim coach Moses Sichone to undertake a CAF A License coaching course in Tanzania as part of efforts to strengthen the pool of qualified Zambian coaches.

FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya said the association had taken the decision to sponsor Sichone in response to the tightening of qualification requirements by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for coaches in charge of national teams.

CAF regulations require head coaches of national teams to hold a minimum of a CAF A License, making the qualification increasingly important for Zambian coaches seeking to take charge of national teams at international competitions.

“As FAZ, we have decided to sponsor coach Moses Sichone for a CAF A course in Tanzania as part of widening the pool of local coaches eligible to handle national teams,” Chakatazya said.

Sichone has already commenced the training under the support of FAZ in collaboration with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).

Chakatazya said the initiative forms part of FAZ’s broader commitment to increasing the number of highly qualified local coaches capable of taking charge of national teams.

He noted that Zambia had in recent years faced challenges involving coaches who did not meet CAF’s qualification requirements to manage teams at international tournaments.

While Sichone already holds a UEFA A License, which he obtained in Germany, FAZ said CAF regulations require head coaches of senior national teams to possess at least a CAF A License or an equivalent UEFA Pro License.

The latest sponsorship therefore provides Sichone with an opportunity to obtain the CAF qualification required under the continental football body’s coaching framework.

Sichone previously served as interim coach of the Zambia men’s senior national team, the Chipolopolo, and his latest training represents another step in his coaching development.

FAZ has also sponsored several other Zambian coaches as part of its efforts to enhance local technical capacity.

Among those previously supported by the association are Wedson Nyirenda, who holds a CAF Pro License, as well as Ian Bakala and Masautso Tembo, who both hold CAF A Licenses.

The association says the continued investment in coaching education is intended to expand the number of Zambian coaches who meet international qualification standards and are eligible to lead national teams.

The sponsorship of Sichone comes as FAZ continues to focus on developing local technical expertise while ensuring that Zambian coaches are not disadvantaged by the increasingly stringent coaching requirements imposed by CAF.
