The Chipolopolo Boys have settled down in Algiers ahead of this Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCN) qualifying campaign opener against Algeria.

The Fashion Sakala captained Zambian squad landed in Algeria on Sunday after a week-long training camp in Lusaka.

On Sunday evening Zambia trained at Tirsathone Stadium in the Azazga area of Tizi Ouzou, Algeria to continue fine-tuning their game ahead of the clash.

The squad is accommodated five kilometers from the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium, the venue for the crucial Matchday One encounter against Algeria.

21 out of the 27 players called for this match have already reported for national duty.

Players expected to join camp in the last 24 hours include Germany-based striker Patson Daka, Miguel Chaiwa, Joseph Liteta, Ricky Chanda, Mathews Banda and Kingstone Mutandwa.

According to FAZ, striker Gampani Lungu of Orlando Pirates will be the last one to join the team by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina has challenged his players to prove their mettle against Algeria.

Speaking from North Africa, Lwandamina said the players have an opportunity to dispel the long-standing perception that North African teams are superior to Zambia.

“This game on Friday gives you a chance to change to rewrite history and make the change, they are as human as we are,” Lwandamina told the players.

Zambia is in Group I with Algeria, Togo and Burundi for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. The finals will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
