A Twenty-five-year-old motorbike rider of Mulolo Village in Senior Chief Nkula’s Chiefdom in Chinsali District, Muchinga Province has died after he was hit by a motor vehicle along the Seed Farm Road in Chinsali.

Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer, Lubinda Mayamba has confirmed the fatal accident in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Chinsali today.

The police commissioner identified the deceased as Simeon Bwalya.

Mr Mayamba said the accident occurred yesterday around 16:40 hours in Location Compound near Zesco main office along the Seed Farm Road.

He explained that involved was unregistered motorcycle bearing frame number STARP1436 which was being ridden by the deceased from the North to the Southern direction, and a Toyota Vitz bearing registration number BBA 3855 which was being driven by Harrison Phiri 41 of Rural Compound, also from the north to the southern direction.

Mr Mayamba alleged that the accident happened when the driver of the motor vehicle was overtaking improperly and, in the process, hit the said motorcycle which was in front.

The Police Commanding Officer adds that Bwalya sustained severe body injuries and that he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chinsali District Hospital, while Mr Phiri the driver of the motor vehicle escaped unhurt.

Mr Mayamba explained that the motorcycle incurred a damaged right side foot step, damaged rear wheel, depressed left handle bar and damaged rear right shock.

He added that the motor vehicle had a broken left headlamp, depressed front left fender, shattered front windscreen, broken left side view mirror and damaged front bumper.

“Bwalyas’ body has since been deposited into Chinsali District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination,” the Commissioner of Police stated

Mr Mayamba echoed that both the motorcycle and the motor vehicle have been impounded and currently parked at Chinsali police station, adding that investigations relating to the accident are underway.
