TONSE-Pamodzi Alliance leaders Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu could face the long arm of the law if they fail to avail themselves for questioning over ongoing investigations into activities police say could threaten national security.

Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba said the two opposition leaders have already been summoned and an official call-out served on their lawyers.

Musamba warned that persons of interest who fail to respond to lawful police requests could face measures provided for under the law.

“In the event that a person of interest under the said ongoing investigations fails to avail themselves to the police, the applicable laws and proportionate measures will be taken in order to ensure compliance with lawful requests or call-outs,” Musamba said.

The police chief said the investigations, being conducted jointly with other law enforcement agencies, have been ongoing for several years and involve serious national security concerns.

He said the purpose of questioning Mundubile and Zulu is partly to establish their alleged links to activities which have the potential to threaten or undermine national security.

Musamba said some of the activities under investigation were allegedly conducted at premises owned, managed or linked to the two.

He further disclosed that police are aware of the duo’s location after they reportedly sought refuge under international law with a known international organisation.

According to Musamba, Government has already communicated with the organisation and assured it that the two are entitled to due process and protection of their fundamental human rights.

The Inspector General also warned that anyone who harbours, assists or collaborates with persons wanted or considered persons of interest could be treated as an accessory after the fact and face criminal sanctions.

He said police may also summon other people who could have information of value to the ongoing investigations.

Musamba urged members of the public to cooperate with lawful police call-outs and warned against engaging in criminal activities.
