The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 33 licence applications, three construction permits and various amendments to licences in the petroleum, renewable energy and electricity subsectors.

The approvals represent a total investment commitment of K1 billion, equivalent to approximately US$50.9 million.

In a statement, ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa said the approvals by the ERB Licensing Committee demonstrate investor confidence in Zambia’s energy sector and underscore the regulator’s commitment to efficiency, transparency and timely licensing.

Mrs Kasumpa said in the petroleum subsector, the ERB approved 13 licences for the distribution, importation and exportation of petroleum products.

She said seven licences were approved for the transportation of petroleum products, while one licence was issued for the importation, packaging, blending and distribution of lubricants.

The ERB also approved three licences for the retail of petroleum products.

Mrs Kasumpa said the regulator further approved the construction of three petroleum retail service stations and the operation of one newly acquired station.

She said the approvals would support the development of compliant infrastructure and improve nationwide access to petroleum products.

“In addition, 42 road tank vehicles were licensed to enhance the transportation and distribution of petroleum products,” Mrs Kasumpa said.
