Political party leaders from across the country on Friday gathered in Lusaka for the National Peace Pledge Signing Ceremony in a show of commitment to peaceful elections ahead of the 13 August 2026 General Elections.

Among those who signed was Democratic Union – DU President, Ackim Antony Njobvu, who signed the Peace and Non-Violence Pledge on behalf of the party.

Njobvu said the Democratic Union was making a firm commitment to uphold peace and decorum throughout the electoral period.

“On behalf of the Democratic Union, I signed the Peace and Non-Violence Pledge. We commit to an issue-based campaign that debates ideas, not insults; policies, not personalities,” he said.

He added that the party takes “a firm stand for non-violence before, during and after the elections.”

The DU President urged Zambians to put the country above partisan interests as the nation heads to the polls.

“Zambia is bigger than any party. Let us compete hard, but keep the peace,” Njobvu stated.

The National Peace Pledge is part of efforts by stakeholders to promote tolerance, respect for the rule of law, and acceptance of election results.

Party leaders who signed the pledge committed to condemning violence, refraining from hate speech, and ensuring their cadres conduct themselves peacefully.

With 12 days remaining until voting day, civil society and religious leaders have continued to call on all political players to prioritize peace.
