Government has called for strengthened cooperation between Zambia and China in technology, investment, infrastructure and human capital development to accelerate the implementation of the Grow Zambia Agenda.

Ministry of Defence, Permanent Secretary Maamba Haamaundu said enhanced collaboration with China will be instrumental in transforming Zambia into a productive, industrialised and export-oriented economy. while creating jobs and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Mr Haamaundu was speaking when he graced the fashion show to commemorate the 77th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in Lusaka last night.

Mr Haamaundu said government believes that China’s technological knowledge and investment experience can contribute to achieving the country’s national development goals.

He said Zambia is grateful for the win-win cooperation with China and the numerous benefits arising from the longstanding partnership.

Mr Haamaundu emphasised that President Hakainde Hichilema’s Grow Zambia Agenda is aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and development, calling on China to continue working with Zambia in investment, technology, infrastructure, value addition and human capital development for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Speaking at the same event, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing says China is committed to deepening practical cooperation with Zambia in agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure and digital technology.

And Mr Jing said China stands ready to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and elevate the China-Zambia Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership to greater heights.

He said the two countries are recording tangible progress in key economic sectors, citing the commissioning of the 136-megawatt Itimpi Solar Power Plant, the Zambia Petrochemical Energy Company’s refinery project among other sectors.
