CATHOLIC BISHOPS ARRIVE AT LUSAKA MAGISTRATES COURT

Catholic Bishops, led by Kasama Archbishop Ignatius Chama, have arrived at the Lusaka Magistrates Court, where Lusaka Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda is expected to appear.

The appearance follows a summon issued by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) after Dr. Banda recorded a Warn and Caution Statement on January 5, 2026.

The investigations reportedly relate to an alleged offence under Section 319 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Authorities allege that between April 22, 2021, and December 27, 2023, Dr. Banda was in possession of a blue Toyota Hilux, registration number ALF 7734, which is reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

The vehicle is said to form part of a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles allegedly disposed of improperly. Authorities have stated that the broader matter has previously resulted in convictions of other individuals through the courts.

However, authorities have not confirmed the specific charge or case on which Dr. Banda is appearing before the court today.
