A 12-year-old girl has been allegedly defiled by her 40-year-old stepfather in DK area, Chipata District, Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed the incident to ZANIS.

Mr Mweemba said the defilement case was reported on Saturday, 31st May 2026 at 11:10hrs at Kapata Police Post, Chipata Central Police Station.

Mr Mweemba said the alleged defilement occurred on Friday, 30th May 2026 at DK Compound, Chipata District.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on the material day the mother had gone to her sister’s house, leaving the child alone.

 “When she returned around 21:00hrs, the child told her that the stepfather came home, ate food, and assaulted her before leaving. The child complained of pain on her private parts,” he said.

The Eastern Province Commanding Officer said the mother informed her landlord and sister before reporting the matter to police.

 “A medical report form was issued and the victim was taken to hospital for examination and treatment,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said no arrest has been made as the suspect was on the run, and a manhunt has been instituted to bring him to book.
