QUESTIONS RAISED OVER AUGUSTINE MUKONKA’S NATIONALITY AS CALLS GROW FOR HIM TO STOP COMMENTING ON ZAMBIAN AFFAIRS

Questions have been raised about Augustine Mukoka’s nationality and family background, with calls for the relevant Zambian authorities to verify his citizenship status and the authenticity of his national identity documents.

Those raising the concerns allege that Mukoka has Congolese origins and argue that he should refrain from commenting on Zambian political affairs until questions surrounding his nationality are conclusively addressed.

The allegations further concern claims about members of his family and their origins. It has been alleged that Mukoka’s late mother was buried in the Democratic Republic of Congo and that his father, who reportedly owned Kwacha School, is also deceased.

Questions have also been raised about his siblings, including his younger brother Chiko Mukoka, who is said to have previously worked at ZNBC, as well as his sister Patricia Mukoka, who is reportedly involved in running a school and attended Libala High School.

There are also allegations that some members of the Mukoka family acquired travel documents and subsequently travelled to Canada. Further claims allege that Mukoka and members of his family unlawfully obtained Zambian passports, National Registration Cards and other identity documents in order to access opportunities available to Zambian citizens.

Questions have additionally been raised about an alleged family relationship between Mukoka and an individual reportedly arrested in connection with the security operation involving persons linked to the Mundubile matter.

Given the seriousness of the allegations, the appropriate course would be for the relevant authorities to examine official birth, citizenship, immigration, NRC and passport records and establish the facts.

MUKOKA’S OWN ACCOUNT OF JACKSON MUTYOKA

The renewed questions have also drawn attention to Mukoka’s publicly documented relationship with Jackson Mutyoka, a former Zambia Army Special Forces soldier.

In a lengthy appreciation message published on January 24, 2022, Mukoka described Mutyoka as his “kid brother” and detailed his military career, including his promotion to Warrant Officer Class One (WOC1) in the Special Forces Division of the Zambia Army.

Mukoka wrote that he and Mutyoka, together with other relatives, spent parts of their childhood together and described Mutyoka’s work in survival training and his service in the military.

He also recounted Mutyoka’s involvement in military operations, including an account of his participation in the operation against the Mailoni brothers and his deployment during the 2021 electoral period.

LET THE AUTHORITIES ESTABLISH THE FACTS

The central issue is whether Mukoka’s citizenship and identity documentation were lawfully acquired and whether he is legally entitled to the nationality status he claims.

That is ultimately a matter for the relevant Zambian authorities and, where necessary, the courts.

Mukoka has continued to participate prominently in public debate on Zambia’s political and governance affairs, including recent commentaries on the 2026 elections and security matters.

The appropriate standard, therefore, should be simple; allow the law to take its course.
