Zambia : ZAF, NAPSA, LWSC Seal Deal

Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Maambo Hamaundu has described the signing of a contract for the design and construction of a bulk water pipeline system for several housing developments in Lusaka as a significant step towards improving access to reliable water supply.

The pipeline will serve Kingsland Housing Estate, Zambia Air Force Twin Palm Base, Datong and River View Park, respectively.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mr Hamaundu said the project underscores the beginning of a transformative development initiative, aimed at providing sustainable infrastructure and improving the quality of life for citizens.

He said the initiative demonstrates what can be achieved when government institutions and strategic partners work together towards a common national purpose.

Mr Hamaundu said the government remains committed to improving the lives of Zambians through deliberate investment in infrastructure, housing, water supply and sanitation.

He said access to clean and reliable water is a fundamental human necessity and an important driver of national development, as it supports public health, education, economic productivity, environmental sustainability and social well-being.

Mr Hamaundu said the project aligns with the government’s broader development agenda of ensuring that citizens have access to essential services that promote dignity, good health and economic opportunity.

He noted that improved access to safe water and sanitation can reduce disease outbreaks, improve productivity and make housing developments more attractive to investors.

Mr Hamaundu commended the multi-sectoral partnership involving the Zambia Air Force, the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited.

Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company Managing Director Jilly Chiyombwe said the project represents an investment of approximately 150 million kwacha by NAPSA through Sable Projects, will include the construction of about 12 kilometres of a 450-millimetre diameter water pipeline, a 1,000-cubic-metre ground reservoir and associated project infrastructure.

And NAPSA Acting Director General Joshua Malipenga described the project as an important milestone in efforts to provide sustainable infrastructure to support residential and commercial development in the rapidly growing area.
