POLICE in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province have launched a manhunt for two inmates who escaped from lawful custody yesterday after being picked for work.

Muchinga Police Commissioner, Lubinda Mayanda who confirmed the development, explained that five out of 25 inmates escaped from lawful custody yesterday morning adding that three were recaptured while two are still at large.

Mr Mayamba disclosed that the escape from lawful custody occurred on September 23, 2026 at around 13:00 hours at Chinsali General Hospital.

He stated that the matter was only reported on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 12:30 hours at Chinsali Police Station.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on  September 23, 2026 around 06:45 hours, Prison Warder, Maron Sosala  was together with Warder Moses Chanda of Chinsali Correction Facility when three suspects namely; Martin Chanda, aged 36 years of Chiba area in Kasama facing the Charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Joseph Yamba, 21, of Luveshimanda district  facing charges of theft of a Motorbike and Kennedy Mulenga aged 20 years of Mwika area in Chinsali District facing the charge of breaking into a building and committing a Felony Therein and two other convicts names withhold escaped from a working Party at Chinsali General Hospital,” he explained.
