President Hichilema has assured that his administration will continue to invest in the education sector as this will not only contribute to job creation, economic growth, but also increase national revenue.
The President said that once re-elected for a second term, he intends to introduce a student internship programme for students to be attached to various institutions, in order to help them secure jobs once they graduate.
The Head of State said this during an engagement with students from over 50 higher institutions of learning in the country, at State House, in Lusaka.
“It does not matter whether you are from a private university or public university because a student from a private university is no different from a student in a public university. Why? They are all citizens of Zambia”, he stressed.
The President also indicated that his administration has transformed education into an economic sector, in order to generate more income for the nation and support delivery of various services such as health and infrastructure, among others.
He noted various reforms scored by his administration in the education sector, such as the signing of free education into law, re-introduction of meal allowances, infrastructure development as well as distribution of desks.
Earlier, students’ representatives commended the government for various achievements scored in the education sector over the last four years, plus.
Nelson Nyirenda, a fifth year student at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University thanked President Hichilema for signing free education into law, increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and student loans.
And a representative from the National Council of Student Unions (NACOSU), Vincent Sakala noted that students and the health sector in the country are the biggest beneficiaries of CDF.
“Students are the biggest community in the country, sponsored by CDF. Come August 13th, we have resolved to give 5.8 million votes to President Hichilema”, he pledged.
Another Student of Levy Mwanawasa University, Brian Malambo expressed confidence that if given another term, President Hichilema would drive the country towards economic stability through his strategies aimed at boosting production.
