Mr Chilabi has also confirmed to the media in Lusaka that a total of 32 criminal cases and one Road Traffic Accident were recorded at the Lusaka Showgrounds, between July 29th and August 3rd, 2026.
He has described this as a significant reduction from 65 criminal cases reported last year, representing a 50.8 percent drop.
Mr Chilabi attributed the improvement to enhanced security measures put in place by the Zambia Police in partnership with other security agencies as well as increased security consciousness among show-goers.
“The Service also commends police officers and other security personnel for their commitment and dedication towards ensuring public safety and security throughout the show,” Mr Chilabi stated.
According to Mr Chilabi, the majority of cases involved theft from persons, with 21 incidents mainly targeting mobile phones with six other thefts including laptops, groceries, and personal property.
He disclosed that Police have since arrested 12 suspects in connection with various offences, notable among them, a suspect found tampering with a parked motor vehicle where officers recovered a break-in instrument believed to have been used in the crime.
Mr Chilabi stated that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, further assuring that operations are underway to recover more stolen property.
He noted that additional reports included one case of theft by servant involving 13 tins of shoe polish valued at K990, three cases of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, and one case of tampering with a motor vehicle and malicious damage.
Mr Chilabi also revealed that nineteen mobile phones were stolen during the show, with Sunday recording the highest number at 10, while stolen items included six handbags, three laptops, groceries, cash, and personal documents.
The Police Spokesperson has further urged members of the public to remain vigilant in crowded places, secure their valuables, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police officer.
