Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident which was reported at Chipata Central Police Station on July 30, 2026 at 19:30hrs.
Mr Mweemba said the incident occurred between 09:00hrs and 15:00hrs on the same day.
“I wish to inform you on the above subject matter which was reported via phone call at Chipata Central Police Station. Occurred today 30th July, 2026 between 09:00hrs and 15:00hrs at Kadiba Village,” he said.
He explained that Mable Daka, aged 50, of Kadiba Village reported on behalf of her neighbor, Mercy Mwanza, aged 16, whose son, Emmanuel, was allegedly taken by Sera Daka, aged 24, of the same village.
According to Mr Mweemba, the suspect is known to the baby’s mother and often visits to play with the child.
