Zambia : NW Met Dept. Tightens Weather Advocacy

Solwezi District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO) Mutinta Zulu says the department will intensify sensitisation to farmers on the likely change in weather patterns.

Ms Zulu says  following an advisory from the Zambia  Meteorological Department on the likelihood of some parts of North-western Province to experience rainfall, the department will work with Extension Officers to sensitise the farmers.

Ms Zulu said she was aware that not all farmers have sold their produce to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) as such, in case of a heavy downpour, farm produce will go to waste.

“We know that farmers still have stock of their produce at their homes, some of it unsecured, our role is to sensitise them about this important information so that we prevent produce from going to waste.” Ms Zulu said.

Ms Zulu appealed to farmers to ensure that farm produce is well secured to prevent losses, urging farmers to remain abreast with latest information on the El Nino and its effects.

The  Zambia Meteorological department has issued a weather alert  indicating  that a low pressure  over Angola is expected to draw a moist and unstable North-westerly airflow mainly affecting the Western half of Zambia .

The advisory has explained that this will result in isolated rainfall over Western, North-western, Copperbelt and Southern Provinces as well as the Western parts of Lusaka and Central Provinces.
