Access Bank Zambia has disbursed more than K2 billion to over 113,000 farmers under the 2026 crop marketing season.

The payments have been made through a digital platform developed in partnership with the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to facilitate faster payment to farmers.

Access Bank Zambia says the digital payment system, which was activated five weeks ago, has recorded a 99.5 percent success rate, with farmers able to receive payments within 24 hours.

Access Bank Zambia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Iheanyi Nwogu says the initiative is part of the efforts to improve the efficiency of farmer payments and expand access to financial services.

Dr Nwogu says the bank supported more than 311,000 farmers last year through its branch network, an experience which helped it develop the current digital payment system.

He says the system has reduced manual intervention and improved the delivery of payments to farmers.

He disclosed that the partnership between the public and private sectors demonstrates how technology can be used to address practical challenges and support the agricultural sector.

This is contained in a press statement issued to the media today in Lusaka today by Access Bank Head of Corporate Communications, Alice Mwila.
