United Party for National Development (UPND) Nkana Constituency candidates have urged voters to support the party’s candidates at all levels in the upcoming elections to promote development in the constituency.

Speaking at a public engagement, UPND aspiring Nkana Member of Parliament Francis Mukuka says the constituency needs leaders who will work closely with President Hakainde Hichilema to address challenges facing residents and improve development in the area.

Mr Mukuka said, if elected, he will prioritise creating more jobs and business opportunities for young people and ensure that residents benefit from economic activities in Nkana constituency.

“We need to work together. Nkana is the only constituency that has most of the industries, the mines, mining dump sites, most of the progressive things are in Nkana. But many of these things do not benefit us, the Nkana people,” he said.

And UPND Copperbelt Provincial Trustee Scrieviner Bwalya has urged voters in Nkana to turn out in large numbers on election day and exercise their democratic right by voting for candidates they believe can deliver meaningful development.

Mr Bwalya said residents should consider the development needs of their communities when choosing leaders and elect representatives who will remain responsive to their concerns and improve their livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Nkana Constituency Chairman David Luneta said although residents of Nkana voted for President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2021 general elections, they did not vote for a Member of Parliament or councillors.

Mr Luneta has therefore appealed to Nkana residents to support UPND candidates in the upcoming elections.

UPND Aspiring Ward Councillors have also appealed for support from voters in their respective wards, pledging to prioritise local development and address challenges affecting their communities if elected.
