Nakonde Forum for Persons with Disabilities Chairperson, Martin Gondwe, thanked ECZ for exhibiting transparency and hoped this would be maintained throughout the electoral process.
Speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), Mr Gondwe called on all political parties to preach peace in communities ahead of the polls.
Mr Gondwe further appealed for inclusion of persons with disabilities in the voting process and asked if braille tactile jackets will also be available during the verification exercise.
“Make sure you preach peace wherever you are going, in our camps. Persons with disabilities and women inclusive, we want to participate in a violence-free election this year,” he said.
And United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairperson for Nakonde District, Derick Banda, said the process had been peaceful.
He expressed optimism that the same peaceful mood will prevail as poll staff are deployed and dispatched to polling stations tomorrow.
He also expressed gratitude to other stakeholders who have been available from inception, to ensure transparency.
“So far so good, the process has been peaceful for us. The most important thing we always preach is peace. Even from the time we received the ballot papers it has been peaceful,” he said.
And National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Mwenzo Constituency Chairperson, Frederick Siame, called for continued transparency during the dispatch of poll staff and verification of election material.
Mr Siame also expressed satisfaction with how the election preparations have been conducted in the district.
“So far so good. As we do the verification exercise when dispatching poll staff, we need to verify what the contents are. What we are asking for is the same transparency that has prevailed to continue,” Mr Siame said.
