The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it recognises that an inclusive electoral process is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy.

Speaking during the ECZ Women’s Conference held at Ndola Skills Training Centre in Ndola today, Copperbelt Provincial Electoral Officer, Shaft Musaka, said women are not just participants in elections, but decision-makers, advocates and architects of a brighter future.

Mr Musaka said the Commission has deliberately implemented policies aimed at empowering women at every stage of the electoral process.

“We have strengthened voter education programmes specifically tailored to address barriers that hinder women’s full participation in elections,” he said.

Mr Musaka said the Commission is also actively promoting women’s representation in electoral administration to ensure their voices are heard, valued and integrated into decision-making structures.

He added that the ECZ continues to champion safe, peaceful and fair elections that are free from intimidation and discrimination, enabling women to vote and contest leadership positions with confidence.

Mr Musaka explained that empowering women requires collective action and collaboration, adding that the Commission is working with communities, organisations and other stakeholders to amplify women’s voices, promote civic engagement, and encourage more women to stand as candidates, election observers and advocates for peaceful and credible elections.

“As we embrace this commitment, let us remind ourselves that peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, equity and opportunity,” he said.

Mr Musaka urged women in Ndola and across the country to actively participate in shaping Zambia’s democratic future.

“Let this Women’s Conference be a call to action for every woman in Ndola and beyond to rise, participate and shape the future of Zambia’s democracy,” he said.
